On December 2, 2025, Carlo Ancelotti delivered a strong message to Brazil’s star players, emphasizing that he will only select those in peak physical condition for the 2026 World Cup.
Vinicius Junior’s spot on the Brazilian national team for the upcoming World Cup is far from guaranteed. In an interview on the Esporte Record program, the Italian coach stated bluntly that even superstars like Neymar and Vinicius are not immune to this standard. “Players must be at 100%. We have many talented players. I will only choose those who are fully fit. If Vinicius is at 90%, I would opt for someone who is at 100%,” Ancelotti stressed, highlighting the fierce competition, particularly in the attacking positions.

Neymar hasn’t been included in any squads since Ancelotti took over and has missed eight matches altogether. The Santos star has not played for Brazil since injuring himself against Uruguay in October 2023. Nevertheless, he is training with the aim of being part of a World Cup that could potentially mark the end of his career.
“Neymar possesses immense talent, but he has faced too many injuries during our time together, preventing him from being at his best,” Ancelotti remarked.
Conversely, Vinicius has maintained a strong rapport with his former coach from their time at Real Madrid. He has previously noted the progress Brazil is making under Ancelotti: “We are developing our style of play. Figuring this out before the World Cup is crucial as we have limited matches left. Everyone needs to quickly adjust to the World Cup mindset and understand that our opportunities are approaching.”
Ancelotti’s message is clear: there are no exceptions for any star players, and the tickets to the upcoming tournament in the USA, Canada, and Mexico will only go to those meeting the highest standards.
